Here’s how to have a productive, relaxing spring break

Spring Break is coming up quickly, and it can be one of the best times of the semester for students to relax before or after midterms. Prioritizing mental health and making time for yourself is one of the best ways to relax during the break.

Here are some of the best tips on how to relax during Spring Break:

Exercising

For some, exercising is a great way to relieve stress. Lifting weights or cardio at the gym can be both a productive and relaxing use of time. For others, exercising is a nice stroll around the neighborhood; walking can benefit your mental health and help clear your head.

Working out is great, but do not worry and overexert yourself. Take baby steps and do not be afraid to take it slow. Walking alone, with friends or even with your dog can help you relax. Just a little bit of fresh air and a change in environment can do wonders for your mental health.

Organize

Organizing your space is a great way to relax during spring break. This could be something small, like your backpack or even your bedroom. A nice reset of your space or tidying up something you have been putting off can help you relax. Taking some time over break to do this can help set you up for success once classes are back in session.

An efficient method of organizing that can still be relaxing is working in small sections over multiple periods. Having a clean and organized space can help improve your mood and productivity.

Cleaning

For those who have been putting off cleaning a large space, Spring Break is the perfect time to do so. Similar to organizing, having a clean area to relax in can help you feel less overwhelmed. When conducted mindfully, cleaning can be a great way to relax during your Spring Break.

Some things to consider cleaning would be high-touch areas, the kitchen, the bathroom and your desk/workspace. Having a clean living space can help ensure a relaxing Spring Break.

Catch up with friends and family

For some, Spring Break is a time to visit with loved ones. Take the time to call your family and see your friends from back home. Social interactions with people you may not see during the school year can be relaxing and refreshing.

Leaning on your support system is a great way to relieve stress and anxiety because it creates a distraction from work and school. Fun, social activities can include going out for coffee or dinner, hiking, biking, attending community events or simply enjoying one’s company at home.

Plan ahead

Planning ahead is especially beneficial for those in difficult classes or graduating. Putting yourself ahead before returning for the remainder of the semester can help reduce anxiety and stress. This includes catching up on homework, editing your planner and updating your resume. Finals week and graduation will be here quicker than you expect after the break, so getting ahead of schedule can make for a smooth ride to the end of the semester.

Catch up on errands

Catching up on errands you may not have the time for during the school week can help reduce stress. Whether the errand is grocery shopping, getting a haircut or dropping something off at the post office, Spring Break is a great time to do so.

Take time for yourself

Use Spring Break to take the time to relax in your space and use your downtime however you would like. Whether you want to craft, read a new book, catch up on your favorite television show or sleep in, put yourself first. Spring Break is a time for students to take a well-deserved break from hectic school responsibilities.
