Free day pass
Athens County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the Athens County Fairgrounds for a suspicious vehicle complaint.
At the scene, deputies found an abandoned red Jeep and attempted to contact the vehicle’s owner.
After speaking to the deputies, the Athens County Fair Board agreed to let the vehicle stay for the rest of the day.
Family troubles
According to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a domestic complaint in Glouster.
The complainant told the deputies at the scene he overreacted and called after a horseplay session took place with his uncle.
Deputies found no crime had occurred and were requested to have no investigation take place because the issue was over.
Thursday, June 12
Dog alone
A complaint filed with the Athens County Sheriff’s Office reported a dog barking at Matheny Road in Nelsonville.
Deputies checked on the dog and attempted to contact the owner, which was unsuccessful. Deputies also determined the dog had shelter, food and water.
Sly unwanted guest
A raccoon was reported slyly sneaking into a house on Pleasanton Road to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies met with the residents, who gave the raccoon’s location, and the deputies proceeded to remove the raccoon from the home.
Friday, June 13
Juicing on the bike ride
A caller made a drug complaint to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office after finding a needle on a bike path in Chauncey.
Deputies responded, found the needle and collected it.
High-speed chase
Athens County Sheriff’s Office deputies tried to stop a bicyclist for a traffic violation in Nelsonville. However, the bicyclist fled.
The bicyclist went through an alley and several yards, escaping the deputies. Athens County Sheriff’s Office and Nelsonville Police Department deputies tried patrolling for the bicyclist but could not find them.
Saturday, June 14
Wrong vehicle … Wait, why is it on fire?
According to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle was on fire on the bike path between Armitage Road and the Eclipse Company Store.
The Plains Volunteer Fire Department was called to the scene because of hot spots being present. A short time later, the vehicle that caught fire was reported stolen.

Narcotics were found on the ground by an employee in the EZ-Mart in Glouster and were reported to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office.
At the scene, deputies collected the narcotics for disposal.
Sunday, June 15 (Happy Father’s Day!)
Darn kids and their pools
Suspicious activity occurring at Pepper Lane in The Plains was reported to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office.
After patrolling the area, deputies discovered suspicious activity was just children playing in a pool.
Night riding
Athens County Sheriff’s Office deputies went to Locust Lane because a complainant had to get up early for work and was upset from hearing loud motorcycles.
Deputies patrolled the area but did not find or hear any motorcycles.
Monday, June 16
Child custody issues
According to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a report of child custody issues.
The caller said she was meeting the grandmother of her child at a gas station; however, the grandmother arrived and immediately left with the child.
Deputies spoke to the other party and helped make arrangements for the child to be picked up.
Bag of issues
A man was reported to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office riding a bicycle down a bike path at Glen Ebon Road in Nelsonville and was tossing bags into the woods.
Deputies patrolled the bike path but could not locate the individual or any bags in the woods.
Tuesday, June 17
That wasn’t free
At the Kroger in Trimble, Athens County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a trespassing complaint.
The store manager said a woman was stealing items from the store, and he would like her trespassed from the store. Deputies located the woman and trespassed her from Kroger.
Ghost train
Athens County Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted with controlling traffic at the area of state Route 682 and state Route 56 due to a railroad crossing malfunction.
The railroad company arrived, and the roadway was reopened.
