Dr. Dashiell leaves her impact, legacy on OU

Dr. Eddith Dashiell is retiring after 33 years of impactful work in journalism. For the past five years she's been the Director of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, and she was the first woman and African American to fill the role. Dr. D has inspired so many students over the years and she will continue to be an advocate of free speech and journalism. Club Cycle offers engaging, motivating way to workout

Club Cycle is a free fitness class for students and taught by student instructors at Ping Recreation Center. Cyclists say this class is a very interactive and engaging way to get a workout in. Coach, Lexi Zupsansky says cycling is her passion and allows her live a healthier life. She motivates her cyclists and holds exciting themed classes full of energy. Black Alumni Reunion put on hold due to Senate Bill 1

The Black Alumni Reunion at Ohio University was put on hold due to recent changes in Ohio legislation with the passing of Senate Bill 1. This bill removes DEI programs from public institutions, meaning OU can not hold the reunion anymore. Regardless, alumni and students say they are still coming together in Athens from April 10-13 to celebrate each other, they will just not do it through the university. President of OU, Lori Stewart Gonzalez wrote she is thankful for the Planning Committee's willingness to reimagine this event. The Center for Entrepreneurship hosted the Startup Market to give young entrepreneurs an opportunity to network, gain real world experience and show off their hard work in building their small business. Anti-Trump protests break out nationwide, in Athens

All across America, protests broke out April 5 to speak out against the current political administration. Athens participated in these protests and had former educators and guest speakers who spoke against the dismantling of the Department of Education, as well as Elon Musk’s involvement in the government. Athens community comes together in support of Take Back the Night

Take Back the Night is an annual event at OU to raise awareness for sexual and domestic violence, and it's a way to uplift survivors. The night was filled with speeches, artistic performances and it was capped off by a march up Court Street. Cool Digs joins growing closures of Athens businesses

Cool Digs on West Union St. has officially closed due to construction on the Lostro building. The construction has resulted in the sidewalk on that side of the street to be closed since August, forcing people to the other side of the street. Due to this, the traffic to three businesses was almost nonexistent, forcing them to shut down. Owner of Cool Digs, another small business owner and an Athens Resident express their frustrations about the closing of small businesses due to construction. Engineering students work together to build Baja car

A team of engineering students are working together to build a Baja car, which is a vehicle made for off-road terrain. This experience is a chance for engineering students to take what they've learned in the classroom and also compete in the Society of Automotive Engineers Baja Competition. Not only is this an opportunity for students to participate in experiential learning, but it also is a direct pathway into a career for some students. Crowds pour in to Bagel Street Deli for Picklefest

Friday, hundreds of people packed Bagel Street Deli for its annual Picklefest, a pickle eating competition. Some say they signed up for fun to see what it's like, but others may not have performed to their best ability. OU graduate student transforms chemotherapy education

Abel Jarrahi, a Scripps College of Communication graduate student has created a company called VR Medical Solutions for his project, "Chemotherapy Unveiled". It simulates a chemotherapy facility to ease the initial anxiety and confusion of chemotherapy treatments, helping patients feel more prepared. Jarrahi says his research confirms the effectiveness of virtual reality in medical education and addressing real-world challenges.
