The struggle of housing insecurity has been an ongoing problem in the Appalachian region due to a lack of shelter and resources for those in need. To combat this issue, HAPCAP put together the Sunset Shelter Project, which is a community initiative to turn the Sunset Motel on Columbus Road into a temporary housing shelter. Many local organizations, Athens community members and Ohio University students came together to help make a difference with this project. Vibrancy Theatre put on Booty Candy last week. Booty Candy explores the theme of growing up as a black and queer person in America. The show is known for its comedy, while still highlighting the complexities of identity in black culture. An actress in Booty Candy says she loves the play becuase it spreads the message that you can't separate being black and queer, and it should be celebrated.
