This quarter, Ohio University juniors studying graphic design are creating and selling T-shirts for a class project while also getting hands-on experience in their field.
I thought it was fun especially because it was T-shirts
said Renee Granados, a student whose design will be sold. It is cool to design something that people wear and the assignment was pretty open so we had a lot of freedom.
Every year, students in the junior studio class are given an assignment to take a design from production to print and then sell the products.
Every year
the product differs
said Sherry Blankenship, an associate professor who teaches the class. Students have sold everything from greeting cards to journals. This year
they decided on T-shirts.
There were 22 students who participated in the project. Each had to come up with a design around the theme of Ohio. Then the students voted on the top eight T-shirts to be printed.
I thought that it was good for the students to choose because they know what students like
Blankenship said. When they were creating these designs
I had no idea that they would be so humorous.
The students began selling the shirts at the beginning of Winter Quarter.
Just the first day that we sold the shirts
we sold out of the OU Donut design
and from 11 to 3
we made around $200
