Helping seniors schedule a Tier III course and graduate on time is a first priority for Ohio University Student Senate in Spring Quarter, and they discussed upcoming plans at last night's meeting.
Since Fall Quarter, seniors have been contacting senate with two major concerns about Tier III courses, said Brian Footer, senate president, adding that many seniors said they were unable to schedule a Tier III course for Winter Quarter. Seniors have been asking why they could not enroll in Tier III courses and if they were going to graduate on time, he said.
Additionally, some seniors asked why they were required to take a course that they felt did not apply to their OU education, Footer said.
In response, senate created an Action Committee that is seeking out student experiences and input with regards to effectiveness of the Tier III
according to a senate press release.
What can we do to really address the heart of the problem? Footer said.
So far, senate has gotten help from OU administrators and student trustees and acquired information on Tier III courses from student surveys distributed by other senators.
Everyone has been helpful except the Faculty Senate Footer said. All that we've asked is to have a philosophical conversation with (the Educational Policy and Student Affairs Committee).
In addition to creating a resolution in the spring, Footer said he plans to meet with David Ingram, chair of University Curriculum Council, to discuss the reoccurring problem.
Student Senate is taking care of the situation, Footer said, adding that he wants to make sure every student will graduate in Spring 2006.
