This past week has been big for the music industry, with Taylor Swift coming out with her deluxe version of “The Life of a Showgirl,” and a series of other songs dropping the same day from other artists, listeners have their ears full with new music.
“Patient Zero,” a single by Swift, dropped on Friday, Sept. 25 as a part of “The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore.” The deluxe album features songs like “Pink Clouding,” “Cleveland!” and “Babylon” as well.
Phoebe Bridgers also released a new song on Sept. 25 titled “On Video.” It is the end credits music for the new movie “Primetime,” in which Bridgers is making her acting debut. “Primetime” is a new psychological thriller based on Chris Hansen and “To Catch a Predator.” The new song touches on themes from the movie, specifically lyrics like “fragile like a child at the fair,” and “watching you like a common criminal.”
A throwback to the late 1980s and 90s, U2 released a new song on Sept. 24 titled “Silencio.” The song will show up on their album set to release on Nov. 13th, “Carnaval De Luz.” This new song is especially significant because it is the first song they have released in nine years. This year, they are also celebrating their 50th anniversary as a band. U2 formed in 1976 , and 50 years later, it is still composed of its original four members.
Another throwback, Madonna collaborated with Charli xcx on a new song. “Danceteria Afterhours” released Sept. 24 as a remix of her song “Danceteria”, which was released earlier this year as a part of her 15th studio album “Confessions II.”
Nessa Barrett, a former youtuber from 2020, started her music career in the peak of her YouTube fame with her first single, “Pain.” She went on to have many of her songs featured in television shows including “One of Us is Lying” and “My Life With the Walter Boys.” Barrett released a new album on Sept. 25, “Tough Love” featuring her lead single “Too Fast to Live, Too Young to Die.”
EGOT winner and former voice coach John Legend and producer and fashion designer Pharrell Williams released the single “Fireflies” on Sept. 25. The single will appear on the album “Muse”, which is set to release in October. The album is co-written and fully produced by Williams. The duo is bringing their musical power and sheer soul together for this album, and fans could not be more excited.
Rex Orange County went through an unforeseen career pause in 2022 due to sexual assault charges, however; they were dropped when evidence proved the accusations to be false. That was at the height of his “Who Cares” tour. He took a break from the public eye, but went back to performing in 2023. Since then, his music has been sparse, but he continues to write and release music for his fans. He released “Grandma Song” on Sept. 23, a single that will appear on his new album, “Dream Fatigue," which is set to release on Nov. 6.
In 2016, Shawn Mendes released his hit album “Illuminate.” Ten years later, on Sept. 25, Mendes re-released the album for its 10th anniversary and included vault demos recorded in 2016. “Cold in California (2016 Demo)” was among the demos released with “Illuminate (10th Anniversary Edition).” The song was leaked in 2019, but never got an official debut until now.
For country fans, Kenny Chesney just released an album titled “Silver Sands Marina” on Sept. 25. The new album features songs like “Remember Me That Way” and “Carry On.” The new album holds eleven new tracks from the country star and includes a feature from America’s favorite “Emo Cowgirl” Megan Moroney. They collaborated on the song, “It Just Got Weird.” This new album from Chesney marks his 21st studio album.
Sticking with the country theme, new country star, Dasha, released a new single on Sept. 25. Dasha first took off with popular song and dance “Austin” in 2024 when it became popular on TikTok. Her new single “82 Chevy” was released along with a music video as a preview of her upcoming studio album, which is set to release in 2027.
M83, a band popular for songs like “Wait” and “Midnight City,” released a new album on Sept. 25 titled “I Wrote You A Letter.” The band, known for the unique synth-pop style, has made music since 1999. Their new album features songs like “Heart Motion Foto” and “Traces of Love.”
