An armed individual lunged at Ohio Democratic gubernatorial candidate Dr. Amy Acton during a campaign stop at the Canfield Fair on Sunday, according to The Associated Press. Acton was not injured in the event; however, several were hurt.
The Mahoning County Democratic Party chairman Chris Anderson said the suspect was arrested and was found with multiple weapons.
Gov. Mike DeWine said in a statement posted to his social media channels, that a man pushed toward Acton during her speech, injuring attendees.
“Violence or the threat of violence at political or public events is always unacceptable,” DeWine said in the statement.
Addie Bullock, communications director for the Acton campaign, released a statement following Sunday’s incident.
“Dr. Acton and Eric are grateful for the swift and decisive action of law enforcement and are praying for the recovery of those injured,” Bullock said in the statement. “This kind of violence has no place in Ohio. Dr. Acton will always stand up to the chaos, hate and vitriol that pits us against one another.”
Acton is on the ballot against Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
