Fabric and craft retailer Joann is working to close and liquidate every store by May after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Jan. 15. The company has been around for 80 years, starting from a single storefront in Cleveland, Ohio, and becoming the nation’s leader in sewing and fabrics. The Joann in Athens at 743 E. State St. does not have a determined closure date.

Abel Jarrahi, a Scripps College of Communication graduate student has created a company called VR Medical Solutions for his project, "Chemotherapy Unveiled". It simulates a chemotherapy facility to ease the initial anxiety and confusion of chemotherapy treatments, helping patients feel more prepared. Jarrahi says his research confirms the effectiveness of virtual reality in medical education and addressing real-world challenges.

Indie singer-songwriter Tucker Pillsbury, who goes by Role Model, released the deluxe version of his second album, “Kansas Anymore (The Longest Goodbye),” on Feb. 14. The album now includes 17 pop-country tracks, with the song “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out” stealing the show. The upbeat tune has gained traction online and is a very clear frontrunner for the song of summer 2025.

Over spring break, myself and 29 other Ohio University students joined approximately 300,000 attendees at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas. Every year, the School of Media Arts and Studies sends a group of students studying film, journalism, music production and media arts to the creative festival as representatives of the school and young professionals looking to make connections and find inspiration within their fields.
