As the unofficial, highly anticipated weed holiday of April 20, or 420, rolls around, many students at Ohio University have different opinions on the legalization of marijuana in Ohio. The use of recreational weed in Ohio is illegal and is considered a minor misdemeanor and can result in a fine; however, Athens decriminalized possession of weed, resulting in a zero dollar fine for minor misdemeanor offenses regarding marijuana.

On the evening of Monday, April 17 Yom Hashoah will begin, the Israeli day of remembrance for the over six million Jews who were murdered during the Holocaust. The year which is most commonly cited as the beginning of the Holocaust is 1933, meaning that we are now 90 years out from the beginning of the heinous genocide. Almost a century later, how should we be remembering the Holocaust? In this case, I believe that knowledge is the most powerful route to take.

Marijuana, Mary Jane, pot or weed— it's all been a part of the human condition dating back 6,000 years ago, despite legalization only coming into the mainstream in 2012, with Colorado and Washington becoming the first states to legalize marijuana. Since then, many states have followed that trend.
