May 2, 2008, is a date that should go down in history as one of the most important dates in pop culture history, as it introduced one of the most influential movie characters in all of cinematic history: Tony Stark. Through the chaos he experienced in the Middle East, quick-witted snarkiness and love of Burger King, we were introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a media franchise that revolutionized the way we look at and intake movies and pop culture.

In 1998, “Sex and the City” premiered on HBO, taking the world by storm for its iconic characters, witty dialogue and interesting plot lines about all things related to sex. Progressive for its time, the show is now refreshing to see, especially from the lens of four women trying to get their acts together in New York City.

After the apparent success of HBO’s “Euphoria,” show creator Sam Levinson went on a mission to create another exciting TV series in hopes of gaining the same sense of admirability. Thus came Levinson's daring and exotic series “The Idol,” starring noticeable faces Lily-Rose Depp and music chart-topper Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye. However, what was thought to be the “biggest show of the summer,” according to Levinson, did not turn out as such.

Going off to college means seeing less of one’s family, which can be stressful and overwhelming once the school year brings new assignments, classes, professors and friends. Even though being away from your family can be challenging, there are plenty of ways to keep in touch while in Athens.

She’s a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world – that is until Barbie starts asking existential, self-effacing questions and begins to disrupt a perfect, plastic world. “Barbie” – through its sincere tackling of abrasive gender norms and depressive feelings – ultimately makes you go from wanting to be like Barbie to realizing that you are like Barbie. And though the doll’s life is plastic, “Barbie” brilliantly shows that it isn’t exactly fantastic.

This past Saturday, I was able to see the award-winning, pop-punk powerhouse band Fall Out Boy at Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. This was a dream come true for me since this was my first time seeing my all-time favorite band front and center in the pit. I was crying, screaming and dancing the whole time. Nevertheless, here’s the breakdown of Fall Out Boy’s Cincinnati stop on their North American “So Much For (Tour)dust” tour.

For a franchise that spans over 32 movies and shows, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU, has never been more disappointing than it has been over the past few years. With 17 projects already in for the new “Multiverse Saga,” it is depressing to see that only two of them are actually even good, those being “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3.” The Disney+ shows have ranged from middling to downright unwatchable, and sadly “Secret Invasion,” the newest addition into phase five, leans towards the middling.

“Secret Invasion,” starring Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelson as Talos has completely destroyed itself with yet again no plot progressing and slow dialogue that ultimately has no meaning nor bearing on the story at large.

Let’s talk about the catchers of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The man of the hour is Austin Hedges, the starting catcher of the Buccs who is a polarizing character in the MLB community. Cleveland Guardians fans love him, which I can only assume is because of his defensive prowess. It’s a necessary attribute for one of the most active positions on the diamond, but he’s the worst hitter in baseball. His bat can't hit anything worthwhile, and his production in this category all but guarantees at least three outs a game for an offense. For this reason, Pittsburgh Pirates fans detest him and would love to see him designated for assignment as soon as possible. Hedges is not featured anywhere near the top of the Pirates’ fan store sorted by the category “top selling,” and you also can't sell him to me as a player worth paying any amount of money, let alone $5 million a year.

James Gunn has done it again. His newest film, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” (2023), is a testament of how willing a director is to complete a film even when put in such awkward circumstances. When Gunn was fired by Marvel back in 2018 due to the resurfacing of old twitter posts posts he had made well over a decade ago that contained both rape and pedophilia jokes, it looked like Gunn was never going to complete his trilogy.

A mindless scroll on TikTok might lead you toward a new side of the social media app: the famed “WaterTok,” stimulating over 170 million views across the app. But it’s not just plain, old water; it’s a 40-ounce Stanley cup full of ice, powder flavor packets and copious pumps of syrup to create the ultimate water-drinking experience.

Satire has always represented a release value for democracy. From the time of Old Comedy in Greece, where Aristophanes would critique war, education and the elite equally, to Shirley Jackson's haunting work "The Lottery," which criticizes mob conformity, satire has always been present.
