The Taliban’s Ministry of Vice and Virtue recently issued new morality laws, which prohibit women from speaking or showing their bare faces in public. The goal of such laws is the “promotion of virtue and the elimination of vice,” according to ministry spokesman Maulvi Abdul Ghafar Farooq. The “vice” in question is men’s desire, and women’s voices are apparently a form of intimacy that can be used to lead men into temptation.

Gunmen took to a parade celebrating the Chiefs’ 2024 Super Bowl win in Kansas City, Missouri, on Valentine’s Day, killing at least one and injuring more than 20 others. It is doubtful that anyone is surprised by this, of course. Already in 2024, gun violence has killed almost 5,000 people in the U.S., so this recent shooting is nothing out of the ordinary.

On Feb. 5, Israeli forces broke into the home of Samaher Esmail, a 46-year-old Palestinian-American woman from the town of Silwad in the occupied West Bank. Esmail was asleep in her bed when she was arrested for what the Israel Defense Forces, or IDF, claims was “incitement on social media,” though she has yet to actually be charged with a crime. After she was arrested, her relatives didn’t know where she was taken.

In the early hours of Monday, Feb. 12, the Israel Defense Force, or IDF, bombed Rafah, the southernmost city in Gaza, which borders Egypt. The 25-square-mile city is densely populated, currently holding over a million displaced Palestinians who have been seeking refuge there since the IDF declared it a safe zone.

Explicit deepfakes of Taylor Swift are currently circulating the internet, rightfully sparking outrage among her fans. The photos were taken down on X, formerly known as Twitter, but before that, they were viewed upward of 45 million times. Luckily, the situation garnered the attention of Congress, and steps are being taken to criminalize the use of AI to generate nonconsensual sexual images.

Stanley cup collectors rose from their beds in the early hours of the morning on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023 and lined up outside their nearest Target in hopes of getting their hands on one of Stanley’s limited-edition Valentine’s Day tumblers. When the doors opened hours later, the crowds flooded in and stormed the Stanley displays in the same manner one might imagine survivors of an apocalypse would storm the last stocked grocery aisle.

A 25-mile strip of land called Gaza is home to millions of Palestinians, almost half of whom are children. Today, Gaza and its people are helpless, waiting for Israel’s inevitable ground invasion.

A few weeks ago, Tennessee legislators passed a ban on drag shows in public places because they are supposedly “harmful to minors.” On Monday, March 27, a gunman took six lives at an elementary school in Nashville, Tennessee, the very state in which this ban was passed. The shooter happened to be a transgender individual. Some people now believe this person who killed three children is somehow reflective of drag shows and the transgender community as a whole.

Taylor Swift kicked off her long-awaited The Eras Tour on St. Patrick's Day in Glendale, Arizona – or should I say, Swift City. 70,000 fans gathered at State Farm Stadium for the show, surpassing the 60,000 who were in the crowd during the opening night of her 2018 Reputation Stadium Tour, the highest-grossing tour in U.S. history. The Eras Tour is expected to break that record. To say there has been great anticipation of The Eras Tour would be an understatement.

Last week, a video showing a man verbally abusing workers at a Tim Hortons drive-thru went viral. He screamed profanities at them and demanded they make him an extra-large dark roast with a double espresso. The reason for his outburst was that the store’s card reader was down, so they were only accepting cash. Even though a sign was attached to the menu board clearly stating they were cash-only for the day, the man arrived at the window with no money expecting to be served for free and with a smile.

Just about everyone knows about the little blond girl who vanished from an apartment resort in Praia da Luz when she was just three years old. The disappearance of Madeleine McCann has been one of the most well-known missing-persons cases in history, having received international publicity due to the fact that she vanished seemingly without a trace. The suspicious circumstances of the case led people to believe that McCann’s parents might have had something to do with her disappearance, as they went out to dinner and left McCann and her two siblings alone in an unlocked apartment. However, considering the possible recent development in the case, it would suggest that McCann’s parents really don’t know what happened to their daughter.

On Jan. 6, administrators of Richneck Elementary School in Newport News, Virginia, were warned multiple times, to no avail, about a possible armed student. This carelessness resulted in the shooting of 25-year-old Abigail Zwerner, the perpetrator’s teacher. The first warning was issued by Zwerner, who went to the administration at approximately 11 a.m. to report a rumor that one of her first-graders was carrying a weapon. Her concerns were met with indifference.
