It was the 51st year of the Athens International Film and Video Festival, and that meant another year of dog-themed advertisements spread across Ohio University’s campus and moviegoers converging at the Athena Cinema, 20 S. Court St. According to the film festival website, it is “known globally as a festival that supports cinema from underground and marginalized populations.”

On a warm spring day, with the cherry blossoms blooming, seeing people out and about with their pets is common. Whether they have a curious cat in a harness, or a typical leashed dog, humans and pets alike all delight in these sunny days. However, not all these pets are out for a bit of play. Many are on the clock and wearing chic, professional vests to indicate their status as working service animals.

No one said creating a band would be easy. Between booking gigs, gaining members and learning and creating songs, the members of Ready Aim Flowers have been swiftly coming together to produce a name for themselves. This incredible revamping of what used to be a smaller band with a different sound before the pandemic means that Ready Aim Flowers is ready to try anew. Within the past few weeks, members have been accumulated and roles within the band have been secured. With their homey, Appalachian-indie vibe and original songs, the members are all enthusiastically looking forward to their future.

Rosh Hashanah is a holiday that celebrates the start of the Jewish new year. It is meant to reflect on the past year and look forward to the next. The celebration of the new year ends with one of the most important Jewish holy days, Yom Kippur, the day of atonement. Traditions vary for both days, as Rosh Hashanah is typically celebrated with food like challah and apples with honey, while Yom Kippur is a solemn holiday meant to atone for individual sins and forgiveness from God.

The Student Organization of Undergraduate Playwrights, or SOUP, at Ohio University is a group of people with a passion for plays, finding friends and joining a club where they can let their creative side shine. Every month, the organization produces one night of short plays, all dreamed up by the club members who can do it all: script, act and direct.
