Opinions. People are entitled to them and everyone has them. From political views to chocolate or vanilla, everyone takes a stance somewhere. Their opinions might be found in logic; it could be found in hate or it could be caused by jealousy. Anyone and everyone is entitled to share their opinion, no matter how hurtful and clearly wrong it could be. You can’t change most people’s opinion, it isn’t easy. What you can do is engage in a thoughtful discussion. Belittling someone and making them feel lesser does nothing.

Sherrod Brown is many things. He is Ohio’s senior United States Senator, he is a former Secretary of the State of Ohio and former Eagle Scout. More importantly, Brown knows how to win an election. In 2012 the GOP poured money into his opposition, State Treasurer Josh Mandel and he still easily won re-election. Brown is a proven winner, and he may be one more thing: the Democrats' best chance in 2020.

“I remember you was conflicted, misusing your influence. Sometimes I did the same, abusing my power full of resentment, a resentment that turned into a deep depression.” A phrase heard at some point on almost all of Kendrick Lamar’s tracks on his album To Pimp a Butterfly. That phrase, as well as Kendrick’s lyrical stylings and subjects make him a completely different style of rapper and artist. Kendrick is great at what he does. That has never been a debate. What makes Kendrick so different from anyone else is that he is not afraid to stray into politics and use his voice to drive movements that matter to him, an African-American man from Compton, California.

So many students have such a busy schedule. Most of us take at least 15 credit hours, have a job and are involved with one or more student organizations. Yet, we have three groups of students going the extra mile, running for student government on top of all of that. We can see them tabling on College Green, at the top of Baker Center and anywhere else on campus making their voices heard and getting their names out. We have three tickets: Green Light, Fight and Voice.

There are a lot of issues that face all of us, some small and some big. Some are so small, yet have a huge impact we don’t always even think about. One of those issues is smoking on campus. Though over 15 percent of those older than 18 smoke cigarettes, just because it happens, doesn’t mean it’s OK to do. The health issues facing those breathing in second-hand smoke are common knowledge, yet people still smoke cigarettes on campus grounds regularly. The question also falls, is smoking on campus anyone’s job to stop or not, or do we just have a faulty rule?

If writing about politics has taught me anything, it’s that writing about politics is rarely fun. A lot of times I can think of at least a dozen other things I would rather be doing. Republicans are at odds with Republicans, Democrats are at war with Democrats, and they both hate each other more than they hate members of their own party.

It’s no secret that President Trump has an extremely rocky relationship with the media. To a degree, I understand why he has his issues with certain publications. Some are blatantly anti-Trump. Donald Trump could cure cancer and save 100 children from a burning building, and the Huffington Post would find a way to slant it as to make President Trump look like the anti-Christ. While some journalists are blatantly biased, others do a phenomenal job covering both sides of every issue, and we need them to cover both issues that Hillary Clinton had and Donald Trump is having. The job and integrity of journalists cannot be undermined in this political climate just because you do not agree with how they view an event.

“A house divided cannot stand,” Abraham Lincoln once said. In a perfect world everyone would be able to compromise on issues in which we are unable to give an inch, but that will never be the case. Our differences and near 50-50 split on most issues make this country so amazing and unique. Yet, in my humble opinion, there are certain issues that we can’t be split on, like our environment.

Remember when Dylann Roof committed an egregious act of violence against the black community by murdering members of a historically black parish in South Carolina, and we swiftly moved to racially profile the white race and banned anyone from historically Christian nations from coming into our country? Wait, that didn’t happen. Well, when Adam Lanza and James Holmes both committed mass shootings, we definitely supported racist stop-and-frisk methods to curb that violence. Hold on, that didn’t happen either. Yet, a few isolated incidents happen domestically, and our president calls for what has now been called the “Muslim ban.”

My political views are so simple that they are complex. My ballots are beyond split and my views are beyond split. I both love and hate the word moderate and have been called a communist-liberal-hippie and a fascist-hateful-conservative.

I assume most people have seen Bee Movie, but if not, here is a very brief synopsis (spoilers):

Kevin James is somewhat of a specialist when it comes to his acting career. This applies only in movies.

Adam Sandler has probably dropped three of the 10 worst movies of the last decade. Aside from Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, 50 First Dates and a few other films, Sandler has not put out any film that has been met with generally positive reviews by critics and viewers alike. The mixture of misogyny and racism Sandler has been able to throw into his more recent films have garnered him even more critics.

The acting career of Nicolas Cage is often lampooned. The movies of Cage are often derided but rarely for the content of the film. Rather, it is due to his unorthodox, in-your-face acting style. While Cage movies can be very bad, or Academy Award-worthy, they are always amazing to watch for sheer entertainment value.

The Sharknado franchise is a motion picture powerhouse that many, myself included, just cannot get enough of.

A thought that has crossed the minds of many Cleveland Browns fans, myself included, is 0-16. Despite hiring a coach who has potential for the first time in what feels like ever, the Browns still have one of the worst rosters ever assembled, which is mostly thanks to negligent management by prior general managers.

A.W. Tozer once said “when you kill time, remember that it has no resurrection.” This feeling has been coursing through my veins ever since I wasted an hour and 37 minutes between classes watching The Cobbler starring Adam Sandler.
