The Post: What is your favorite thing to do in Athens?

In a dream world, I would like my car to explode. I would revel in its ashes, rolling around like the heavy black dust is a big pile of leaves. A wave of catharsis would wash over my body as the steering wheel detaches from the dashboard and flies to the heavens; I would be free from the chains of owning a car in Athens.

One of the biggest factors I considered when looking for a college was its commitment to sustainability. As our environment continues to change, it is important to support institutions that recognize the need for anthropogenic change. Colleges and universities are responsible for housing, feeding, and the upkeep of facilities/land; they provide the necessities for students residing on campus. Because students rely on the university for their basic necessities, they can’t maintain as many personal sustainability practices. But luckily, they don’t need to worry because OU continues to implement eco-friendly choices. Here are five of my favorite ways OU tackles sustainable living:

Although for some OU students, it might be difficult to imagine a world beyond the excitement and appeal of Court Street, the city and county have a lot to offer locals and visitors alike. Whether one was born and raised in the region or is merely a passerby, Athens possesses the unique talent of making sure it will not be forgotten.

Dorm rooms can be so dull and often require something to bring liveliness to them. The best way to do this is by adding easy to care for plants. Not only are they gorgeous, but they also purify the air in your room and help boost your mood. Before buying new plants, it is important to analyze your living space. First, how much natural light is in your room? And how dry or humid is the air? After you evaluate, finding a plant that will survive in an unconventional space is much simpler. Keep in mind most of these plants are poisonous to pets so if you have a cat or dog, place it in a place they cannot reach.
