Ohio (1-4) enters its second tournament of the season Friday, traveling to Greensboro, North Carolina, to take part in the Spiro Classic. In the event, Ohio will play four games in group play against Sacred Heart, Drexel and UNC Greensboro, which will decide the seeding for the final matchup of the weekend, in which the top two teams will play each other, as will the bottom two.

Over the past few years, college athletes have gained more rights than ever before. In 2021, players were allowed to earn pay for their name, image and likeness (NIL). In 2022, they were allowed the ability to transfer more than once with an NCAA waiver. Now, in 2024, there seems to be unionization on the horizon for one specific team. Dartmouth men’s basketball is holding a vote to potentially unionize.

Ohio (1-4) opened its season in Boca Raton, Florida, finding itself ahead of one of the most challenging weekend slates of the season in the FAU Paradise Classic. In the event, Ohio took on Michigan State, Arkansas, Penn State and the event’s host, Florida Atlantic.

Ohio (7-15, 4-7 Mid-American Conference) returned to the Convo and came up short in the team’s final nonconference matchup against Texas State (13-12, 3-9 Sun Belt), losing 80-71. Ohio shot just 4-of-20 from three, while Texas State went 8-of-16, also losing the free throw battle as Texas State went 26-of-28 on free throws.

After a successful season for Ohio in 2023, it ended in heartbreak. The team fell to top-ranked Miami in the Mid-American Conference tournament, ending its hopes of making the NCAA tournament.

Coming off two consecutive tough losses against Buffalo and Ball State, Ohio (7-13, 4-6 Mid-American Conference) needs to get back on track against Bowling Green (11-9, 5-5 MAC). The Bobcats will enter the matchup having played their last few games depleted. They’ve been able to push their remaining players, getting career games from their star-studded freshmen, but it has not been enough to match some of the MAC’s top contenders.

In the span of the last three weeks, they’ve each scored at least 60 points in just one game. As of late, it feels like offenses are simply unfair and the league’s top players can just step on the court, choose a number and score that many points at will. But is any of that true? And if it is, is it a bad thing for the NBA?

One game removed from its three-game win streak to even its Mid-American Conference record, Ohio (7-13, 4-6 MAC) took on the MAC’s biggest threat, Ball State (20-2, 10-0 MAC). The game ended in a relatively predictable 97-66 loss, in which Ball State rolled through Ohio with its combination of star power, depth and elite offensive movement.

Outside of a handful of red-carpet appearances, the occasional Instagram story and a disastrous Coachella performance, Ocean hasn’t given his longing fans much to look forward to, but why? Is there reason to believe Ocean has more in store than he’s letting on?

After starting the game on a 12-4 run, points became hard to come by for Ohio (7-12, 4-5 MAC). While Ohio struggled to score, Buffalo (11-8, 5-4 MAC) got into a rhythm at the free-throw line and inside the paint. From that point onward, the Buffalo onslaught would lead to Ohio falling 81-63 as the final horn sounded off.

In traditional fashion, the 2023-24 season’s edition of the famed “Battle of the Bricks” was a chippy and bruising matchup between two storied divisional rivals. Ohio bludgeoned Miami 71-55 in the team’s second-highest scoring total since the start of Mid-American Conference play. This tally comes despite a constantly changing and fluctuating Miami defense that aimed to stop the young and shorthanded Bobcats in their tracks.

Last Saturday, Ohio (5-11, 2-4 Mid-American Conference) took on Eastern Michigan in its first home game since the start of the Spring semester. The game ended with a dominant win, giving Ohio its second victory in conference play. Now, the team heads back out on the road — where they remain winless — to take on Central Michigan (3-13, 1-5 MAC).

After four straight losses in conference play for Ohio (5-10, 2-4 Mid-American Conference), it returned to The Convo for its first home game of the university’s spring semester. Back in Athens territory, the team faced off against Eastern Michigan (5-11, 2-4 MAC) and came away with a 72-62 victory in which it dominated the game on both ends, especially defensively.

NBA trade season is officially upon us as the second major deal of the season has been finalized. The Raptors sent All-NBA forward Pascal Siakam to the Pacers in a three-team deal. In return, the Pacers are sending veteran Bruce Brown Jr., Jordan Nwora and three first-round picks to the Raptors; the Pelicans got involved to send young guard Kira Lewis to the Raptors for cash considerations.
