Ohio (29-19, 19-7 Mid-American Conference) needed to win on the road this weekend, and it picked up three on the back of Skipp Miller’s 17 innings against Western Michigan (16-26, 10-13 MAC). Ohio moved into a tie for first place in the MAC with Miami after the weekend.

For the first 13 innings of its Wednesday afternoon doubleheader, Ohio looked nothing like a team fighting for home-field advantage in the Mid-American Conference Tournament. In fact, Toledo, its opponent, looked far hungrier and complete as it headed toward a doubleheader sweep as well as a deflating defeat for Ohio.

In one of its most entertaining games of the season, Ohio was able to best its in-state rival, Ohio State, to pick up a 1-0 victory on the road. The game was a pitcher’s duel throughout the nine innings of play, and in the end, Ohio also was able to pick up its first win over Ohio State since 2018 and the third since 2012.
