Post Column: It's the little things that make life difficult

The semester is coming to a close. Well, at least that’s what almost everyone except me says. Personally, I see five more weeks as being anything but “coming to a close,” but I guess I’m in the minority here, along with the female college students who don’t consider fat-free cottage cheese as an acceptable substitute for an entire dinner. So to convince myself that this semester from Hell is almost over as well as to come to the aid of the fact that I ran out of writing topics somewhere around Wal-Mart bashing, I’d like to make formal shout-outs to everything and everyone that has kept me insane for the entire semester.

Post Column: Lemony brew tastes like it forgot to be a beer

As we prepared for this week’s column, we asked ourselves some questions. With only a few weeks left, what beers or kinds of beer have we neglected? Would every potential beer drinker want to read our columns, or have we descended into hop-head madness? Are we doing justice to the diversity of beer available in this state?

Post Column: Chaotic world politics foreign to Americans

As hard as it might be to imagine as a resident of the United States, political instability is still commonplace on our planet. And by political instability, I don’t mean figures like Michele Bachmann claiming that Obama’s Affordable Care Act “literally kills” innocents; I mean coups.

Post Column: High Fest was (probably) a party to remember

Boy howdy, what an exciting weekend this was! As per The Post’s longstanding tradition of addressing only the most important campus events, I’ve been asked by my editors to describe the events of High Fest for our loyal readers. There is, of course, one problem with that plan, namely the fact that I didn’t actually attend High Fest and am still not entirely sure what a “fest” is.

In The News: For teenagers, music is a way to be understood

My Chemical Romance broke up during the weekend. For my generation, the generation that was in middle school during the band’s peak, this is (sort of) a tragedy. At least for the kids who did not have inch-thick blonde streaks, Aéropostale T-shirts or friends.

Tough Love: TV trial was wrong venue for minors' rape case

The Steubenville rape case has drawn national attention for the many issues it has forced us to (uncomfortably) explore, including the cultural idolization of football, social-media public perception, and the acceptability of egregious teenage behavior and gender roles, among others.

Between the Lines: Disaster strikes on first day of March Madness

I’ve heard the phrase “bracket buster” for years, but it’s always flown over my head, along with terms of equally small importance to me: Carnivore. Pumpkin. Beer. Sense of direction. Tournaments. Who cares? I don’t have any interest in that stuff.

Post Column: Last entry in annual series a must-buy brew

For more than a decade, Stone Brewing Company has been giving the world an annual gift. On Feb. 2, 2002, they released the first beer in a series — Vertical Epic 2. Every year since, they’ve released a new Epic, but exactly one year, one month, and one day later. The Vertical Epic is now number 11, and unfortunately that’s the end of the series. To commemorate, we’ll be reviewing the Vertical Epic 12, released Dec. 12, 2012. The craft-beer industry is built on the bedrock of novelties and puns, so the Vertical Epic 12 is sure to be a beer of epic proportions. It’s a beer so good it can give you vertigo. Or at least that’s what we’ve heard.

Post Column: Happy Trails: Break out of your rut: snuggle with puppies

I’ve been in a bit of a rut lately, feeling under the weather, constantly stress-eating and consistently Googling such search terms as “are hummus and Wheat Thins bad for you?” while shoveling them in my mouth at an alarming rate and contemplating the fact that I’ve never stepped foot in Ping in my two years on this campus (I’m not kidding).
