Dollar to Dollar

Post Letter: Third-party candidates require no compromise
Nov. 4, 2012John Schmieding’s welcome response to my letter outlines his reasons for supporting Obama and why such support is vital. His case, as I understand it, is that a Romney administration would have a lot of negative consequences. I agree with this point, and I would prefer Obama assume the presidency over Romney. That doesn’t mean I want Obama to take office — I don’t. That’s in part because a lot of the reasons John provides to make us fear Romney apply to Obama too.

Post Letter: Candidates offer opposing visions for U.S.
Nov. 3, 2012In this presidential election, we face a choice between American democracy as we have known it — with the hope of moving forward to more equality of opportunity (represented by President Obama) — and plutocracy: government by the most wealthy individuals and corporations (represented by Mitt Romney). Ohio is the most crucial swing state in this election: It is the state with the highest relative likelihood that an individual voter would determine the Electoral College winner (http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/). With so much at stake, we all must make sure to vote.

By Jacob DeSmit | Nov. 3, 2012Ohio’s club hockey team was blown out Friday night for the first time in almost three years, but the tenacity that has driven the team to stay in the upper echelon of the league rankings through the early part of the season helped the Bobcats even the series with a Saturday night win against Illinois.

Guest Column: For Barack Obama
Nov. 3, 2012Ladies! Listen up. It should come as no surprise that women will decide this election. That’s why we’re seeing strong mothers, daughters, wives, sisters and friends coming together to do whatever it takes to make sure we can continue to strengthen the middle class and keep America moving forward.

Nov. 3, 2012Gov. Mitt Romney is the only choice for a prosperous future. He represents the values and ideas that have made this country great. This election is the most important that we have faced in our short lives; it could have devastating effects for our future if we choose to go down the wrong path.

Post Letter: Third-party votes are not effective in reality
Nov. 1, 2012I’m writing in response to the letter from Stephen Pearson that appeared in Wednesday’s Post. Stephen writes eloquently about his choice to vote for a third-party candidate. I agree with much of what he says, and I probably agree even more with many of his views on policy. Yet I believe that voting for a third-party candidate is not the most effective use of our voting rights.
Post Column: Organ concert impressive, but not moving
Nov. 1, 2012This Halloween weekend, I did something I haven’t done for years. Was it the fact that I went overboard with my costume, shaved my head and drew permanent marker all over my face? No, I go overboard with my excitement for children’s holidays all the time — Halloween weekend marked the first time in years I went into a church on Sunday.
