Post Letter: Former director deserved more attention
Oct. 14, 2012This year, Ohio University dedicated its Homecoming to the Marching 110 and its long-time director Ronald P. Socciarelli after his recent death. The motto was “Better than the Best Ever,” a tribute to Mr. Socciarelli’s passion and commitment to the university, to music and to young people. In this era of Jerry Sanduskys and Bernie Madoffs, Mr. Socciarelli was an honorable and committed role model. He was everything you would ever want an educator to be. Post Letter: Dog shelter's euthanasia is inhumane, should end
Oct. 14, 2012Athens County Dog Shelter should begin planning to become a no-kill shelter. Euthanizing rescued dogs is simply unethical. I have spent many hours in the Athens County Dog Shelter volunteering, and I know that this shelter can be added to the growing list of no-kill shelters across the country. I also have experience volunteering at Berea Animal Rescue Fund, a shelter in the suburb of Cleveland. This shelter has been no-kill for 20 years. Athens County Dog Shelter actually has more space than the shelter in Berea, but the Berea shelter makes it possible with the help of the community, volunteers and foster homes.
