It’s a thrilling time to be a fan of women’s soccer. The United States women’s soccer team won the gold medal in the Olympics this year, and new excitement might continue to build as plans for a new women’s professional soccer league start in Spring 2013.

Increase in swine flu not a major threat for students

UPDATE: Ohio Department of Health announces Aug. 31 that the first H3N2v-related death occurred earlier this week. A 61-year-old woman from Madison County near Columbus died after having contact with swine at the Ross County Fair. The woman had other underlying medical conditions, but the influenza virus may have contributed to her death, according to a news release. Athens County still has 8 confirmed cases of H3N2v.

Here I am waiting in the German Consulate in Chicago. This is my second attempt at getting a German visa to study at the University of Leipzig. Last time, the official told me that my U.S. visa would expire during the intended trip. My only choice was to go back to China, renew my U.S. visa, come back to the United States and apply for a German visa again. According to the German official, and an advisor at OU’s office of International Student and Faculty Services, it was the only way.
