Administrators and faculty are only half the inspiration behind OHIO's Promise and Vision OHIO, yet they have worked their hardest to make Ohio University a better place for undergraduate, medical and graduate students. The other half belongs to students.

Post Letter: OU golf course cannot survive 8Fest havoc

Post Letter: OU golf course cannot survive 8Fest havoc 2/22/2011 10:01:00 PM This letter is in response to the recent letter, "OU should offer golf course for 8Fest site." As an employee of the Ohio University Golf and Tennis Center, I want to briefly shed some light on how we operate. First, the golf course is a true auxiliary of the university. That means that the GTC covers its expenses with its own revenue. The General Fee does not support the GTC. The people who do support us are the golfers that frequent the course; we have more than 20,000 tee times annually! Second, plenty of students frequent the GTC. In fact, about 9,000 of those 20,000 tee times come from OU students. Moreover, the GTC has more than 70 student-workers, such as myself, who depend on its operation for employment. Having 8Fest at the course would undoubtedly destroy it. That would cause less revenue, which would mean the firing of student-workers and potentially the need for support from the General Fee to cover losses. I encourage other students to look at the information available on fees and tuition at ohio.edu/finance/bursar/athenstuition.cfm.
