In the United States, the Cedar River continues to break records today as it floods Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The river is approaching its expected crest of over 30 feet, over 18 feet over flood stage and more than ten feet over the previous record high.

'Fridays Live' sketch satirized Oprah, not her skin color

On Wednesday, a letter was printed in The Post that caught the attention of several of my friends and me. It discussed Fridays Live, a local student-produced sketch comedy show which includes sketches similar to the apparently racist antics popular in Saturday Night Live. The sketch in question is one starring Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham. Allen Henry played Stedman and Margie Pandora, a talented actress who has the apparent disposition of being Caucasian, portrayed Oprah.

Post Letters: Shutting down heating plant would leave few alternatives

I am a little concerned about recent letters concerning the shutdown of the Lausche Heating Plant and the addition of more green energy alternatives. Even though I am in full support of moving toward clean renewable energy and in no way support a reliance on solely fossil fuels for energy, I do not believe the closing of the heating plant is the direction we as a university should be heading.

Study uses electronic textbook to 'rekindle' student reading

Ohio University's School of Communication Studies recently purchased 27 Kindle DX electronic reading devices, which are being used for research about student textbook use. Twenty-five students volunteered to use electronic versions of the course textbook, which was pre-downloaded on the Kindles.

Retention rates rise

Ohio University's first-year student retention rate rose again this fall, up almost 2 percent from last year and 4 percent from 2007.
