Your Turn: Hodson ideal to take over Hocutt's position

Now that Kirby Hocutt has taken the University of Miami at Florida athletic director position, it is time to find a candidate to replace him. Clearly, the best candidate is here in Athens. Tom Hodson, currently the director of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism and the play-by-play broadcaster for Ohio University's women's basketball and Southern Ohio Copperheads baseball, would be the ideal person to assume to duties of Director of Athletics at OU. Hodson has a passion for sports; however, he also is an expert in public relations, having been a journalist, judge, U.S. Supreme Court advocate and a member of the Ohio University Board of Trustees. Two of Hodson's passions are educating journalists on how to understand court proceedings and all types of sports. It is my belief that Tom Hodson would be the best candidate to take over for Hocutt. If you agree, contact Cutler Hall and voice your support.

Your Turn: Post personal info online at your own peril

So, I read the New York Times article, have seen some of the groups on Facebook about privacy, read the horror stories about not being able to delete all your information and Facebook invading your privacy

Didn't Your Mother Teach You Anything: New wave of feminism allows for both dreadlocks and heels

True or false: A feminist is someone who burns bras, hates men and has armpit hair long enough for dreadlocks. I realize midterms may have left some brains a bit fritzed out, so I'll help you out with this one. The statement is undoubtedly false ' but the stereotype has skewed our perceptions so much that this is the image we associate with feminists. Not only this, but we assume that the opposite of this image, the girl who colors her hair and doesn't walk out the door without make-up, cannot possibly hold any thoughts of empowering women.

Your Turn: Obama is ready to be a 'transformational leader'

As a confirmed Obamacan, the new portmanteau for Republicans who are supporting Barack Obama for president, I found the Obama-McCain Charisma-Experience cartoon on your Friday, Feburary 15th, editorial page to be rather simple-minded and obtuse. One might think that a defecting Republican would be more inclined to support a DLC-type Hillary Clinton than a left-leaning Obama, but for those who are concerned about the long-term future of the country rather than the politics of the moment, Barack Obama offers a lot more than mere charisma.

Your Turn: 'Post' should exercise photographic discretion

It has undoubtedly been a challenging week at Ohio University, with both an attempted suicide and attempted rape. This is why I have become so concerned as to why your paper has chosen to make it more difficult for those who were affected most.

48 Hours Later... Students compete for cash in Tcom shootout

This weekend marked the sixth annual 48-hour Shoot Out competition, which gives Ohio University students a weekend to write, film and produce a short movie. Post reporter Ashley Lutz braved the high-stakes atmosphere for the entirety of the weekend to watch how the 18 members of Bearded Productions managed the difficult task of making a movie in one weekend.

Your Turn: Suicide attempt is reaping 'social consequences'

Darn you, The Post. Once again, a decision you've made has gotten enough people's knickers in a twist to warrant an actual bout of anger from my withered heart, enough to pry me away from the homework I am totally not procrastinating on long enough to respond to the photo you published of the suicide threat guy.

Your Turn: 'Post' columnist's 'ironic commentary' is 'absurd'

In regards to Alissa Griffith's columns, I am truly grateful. Not since Stephen Colbert's Colbert Report has the subtle genius of ironic commentary been used so effectively. This brilliant character she has created, that week in and out says some of the most laughable and entertaining thoughts, is wonderful. However, I feel her writing has been underappreciated, and worse, some people actually seem to be taking what she says literally. I know good comedy, and I assure you this is some of the finest this school has ever produced. Think about it: The very concept of her last column was absurd. A journalism major brazenly defending Christianity in a country where the population is 80 percent the same religion. Or the part where she cherry-picks averted tragedies and deems them examples of God's power, while ignoring all the other atrocities that occur daily. And better still, her gross display of ignorance when discussing topics like evolution. Her punch line, a series of random coincidences

Your Turn: 'There is nothing fun about the New World Order'

The article headlined Exhibit to Clarify Great Seal's Symbolism in your issue for Feb. 13, 2008, was enlightening. However, clarification implies confusion and questions ' especially when the government feels it has to counter this accusation: G? that the Seal draws on Satanism or polytheistic ritual to promote a universal new world order under which Earth would be ruled by a single omnipotent government. Wow! Which part of that statement is the government trying to debunk ' the Satanism part or the new world order part?
