Jackson's 'Kong' crowned ruler of big screen

Yes, some action scenes in King Kong are implausible. Yes, a few sweeping sunset vistas look very computer-generated. Of course, a 25-foot-tall ape could never slide on an ice-covered pond in Central Park. And really, how convenient is it that the whole issue of transporting said ape via damaged boat is left inside a fade-to-black?

OU on way to shining distinction - as No. 1 party school

Many Post columnists begin their first columns by explaining to the readers what to expect from them for the next 10 weeks. I think there is something more important for me to discuss in the first of my 10 installments.

Retirement center OK'd after controversial vote

Athens City Council passed two ordinances that permit development of a highly debated retirement community by two 3-0 votes last week, after an opinion from the Ohio Ethics Commission discouraged three members from voting because they work for Ohio University.

Sexual assault policy's official effects have yet to be determined

After a new protocol requiring Ohio University employees to report all sexual assaults was put into place, there was concern that students would be less likely to report sexual assaults. These worries appear to be unfounded, though official numbers have not yet been compiled, said Char Kopchick, OU's director of health education and wellness. I think there's a concern about a decrease of people coming forward

The world gets soccer; why doesn't America?

If I walked outside this morning and yelled things about football, most passers-by would return with praises - or insults - of the Buckeyes, the Longhorns or the Trojans (some deluded people would applaud the Bobcats, but other than the Pitt game and that row of happy hour margaritas, our accomplishments leave us longing for more).

Student relives experience

Trip to New Orleans 'overwhelming' for all All of us who spent a week down in New Orleans walked away from one of the best experiences in our collegiate life. We sacrificed nine days of the warm showers and home-cooked meals of winter break to serve the residents of New Orleans. There we camped on the premises of New Orleans' giant public city park near Tad Gormley Stadium along Canal Street, which provided a prime opportunity to help needy residents.

Managing OSBA budget top priority for president-elect

Martha Rothey, a Findlay City school board member, was elected president of the OSBA in November. She will serve as the organization's president-elect in 2006 and become president in 2007. She will continue to be a Findlay City school board member. The president-elect of the Ohio School Boards Association said funding is the most pressing issue facing Ohio Schools and her first important task will be to manage a new budget that will be adopted in 2007.

Fall from grace

It was fitting, albeit tragic, to watch highlights of Ohio State's romp over Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl just as the Buckeyes' former star, running back Maurice Clarett, was surrendering to police in Columbus after charges he robbed two people with a gun. For Clarett's case is a true tragedy - where a previously great and powerful man is brought low by poor decisions and circumstance.

Attending syllabus day good for tracheas

No ritual exists in the academic realm that I relish with the same passion as syllabus day. The spectacle, the pageantry, the recycled outlines that will quickly go by the wayside; I love them all. When I hear of a friend who has decided to blow off the first day of a class because it's only syllabus day
