PETA's graphic display compels change of view

PETA's recent exhibit juxtaposing human suffering with animal suffering is meant to show that the oppression of animals is abominable and that the suffering of a subject is equal - whether the subject is a human or nonhuman. Does the fact that animals can't speak our language mean that their pain and fear is less?

Coach makes adjustment from Big 12 to MAC

One would think that a two-time Big 12 Coach of the Year, who was once one win away from claiming a national championship, would have all the answers on how to be successful in a weaker conference.

Intelligent design needs verification

This letter is regarding the Sept. 26 editorial, Religion in disguise ... Intelligent design has no place in schools. I've put a lot of thought into the evolution and intelligent design debate, and I've come to what I see as an excellent conclusion: intelligent design can be taught in the classroom, but only the parts that are validated by scientific research and have been reviewed by a panel of peers in the related field (in this case, evolutionary biology).

Rewards preferable

Last week about 200 steelworkers marched alongside Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman in protest of Ohio jobs being relocated overseas and demanded a response to perpetual job loss in Ohio. In the Ohio House of Representatives there is a bill that would seek to protect Ohio workers by forbidding the state to contract with any company - for five years - that has a net loss of jobs in Ohio. Although the proposed legislation is a serious effort to improve the Ohio worker's life - and is a noble attempt - the bill is flawed not because of its ideals, but its lack of pragmatism.

Even purple blobs can't simplify abortion

Having addressed such issues as couch burning, divine command ethics and the love for Nacho Cheese Doritos of those under the influence of certain substances, it is time for Catch Me if you Kant - a title cleverly constructed to corner the market on illiterate Leo DiCaprio fans - to turn its attention to what I'm sure you'll agree is the next logical topic: Abortion.

How low can he go

According to a new poll conducted by The Columbus Dispatch, Gov. Bob Taft's approval rating among Ohioans has fallen to a historic new low - 15 percent. Ohio's governor finds himself among dubious company: Taft's rating is worse than President Carter's numbers after the Iran Hostage Crisis, President Nixon's during Watergate and President Truman's after he fired Gen. Douglas MacArthur. That is just the latest turn of events in the long line of failures seen under the Taft administration, and further proves that Ohioans are fed up with him.
