As the world was prepared to come to an end in 2012, Ohio University students and Athens residents alike were ready to ring in the end in style. From the annual Nelsonville Music Festival to two installments of Number Fest, the year was packed with cultural highlights.
The official Athens Halloween Block Party lineup was announced Tuesday, and this year's festivities will feature many returning artists.

It was a weekend of gratitude and recognition for the eighth annual Nelsonville Music Festival, with many acts calling the festival one of the country’s best.
From acts such as B.o.B. and Mike Posner to the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell,” 2011 was a year to remember. Music continued to dominate the Athens world, with 8Fest, Nelsonville Music Festival and Ohio University bringing multiple big names to Athens, but the comedy scene made its mark as well.
The music lineup for Saturday's Athens Halloween Block Party was announced today. The night will feature two stages on either end of Court St. and will include several Athens-based bands such as First Street Heat, Hellnaw and Mindfish. Columbus-based Mojoflo will also perform.
Five-time Grammy winner Mary Chapin Carpenter is set to take the stage in Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium Sunday night as the Ohio University Campus Involvement Center presents “An Evening with Mary Chapin Carpenter.”
