Bill to further their education, student housing was in an emergency situation. OU received a grant from the state legislature to raise twelve acres east of the main campus above the flood plain. When it rained, the hastily filled area of pre-fab barrack-like dorms became a sea of mud, and soon it became known as "Hog Island" and eventually East Green."
