OUPD receives first report of rape for Spring Semester

The Ohio University Police Department fielded its first report of rape for Spring Semester, according to a report filed Sunday.

At approximately 8:19 a.m., the female victim reported an incident of non-consensual sexual contact, which occurred in Ryors Hall, according to the report.

The incident, which is under investigation, was the tenth sex crime and the seventh report of rape reported to campus police for the 2016-17 academic year. Over winter break, OUPD received two reports of rape, both of which occurred in 2016.

The first winter break case, filed Dec. 23, occurred in late August or early September when a female was raped by an unknown individual while walking between Kantner Hall and the Athens City Parking Garage, according to the report. The second winter break case, filed Dec. 27, occurred Nov. 30 when a female victim met her assailant in her room, and was raped after she denied his sexual advances.

If you believe you have information pertinent to the investigation, please contact OUPD at 740-593-1911 or anonymous tips may be made to Crime Solver Anonymous at 740-594-3331.
