Ohio University's 2014-15 highest-paid administrators

Ohio University has compiled the 2014-15 academic year listing of administrative salaries, and Saul Phillips, OU's new men's basketball coach, has the university's highest base salary at $550,000.

Longtime head football coach Frank Solich comes in second at $488,880. President Roderick McDavis comes in third with a base pay of $431,270. His total compensation is considerably more than that — during the 2012-13 academic year, he made nearly $600,000.

His total compensation for last year is not yet available. Other employees also receive bonuses and other pay that makes their total compensation higher than the base pay reflected in these salaries.

McDavis' base pay rose $16,270, or 4 percent over last year, after two controversial pay raises, one of which was called illegal, initially by The Columbus Dispatch, then by The Post and other media outlets. OU's Board of Trustees rescinded that second pay raise and voted to approve it — publicly — at a later meeting.

Solich's base pay rose $110,600 — 29 percent over last year. OU's football team went 7-6 last season.

Phillips' base pay was 27 percent more than that of Jim Christian, OU's former men's basketball coach who left OU for Boston College this spring. Christian made $433,500 last year.

The salaries were obtained by The Post through a public records request. They include only administrators and classified staff. None of the classified staff salaries fell in the top 10 highest.

Faculty salaries will not be ready until this fall. However, based on data from past years, it is likely the highest paid administrators will be almost all of the university's overall highest paid employees.

Combined, the following salaries would cover 2014-15 tuition for 326 in-state students.
