OU professor’s advice on love picked up by Buzzfeed

If you’ve taken a class on campus with Dan West, you’ve taken one with a viral celebrity. BuzzFeed reported this week that West, an Ohio University professor in the School of Communication Studies, answered a very serious question from a student — "How do you (know) when you're in love?"

He even gave some advice to students.

"My advice is to keep the relationship as real as possible. And to give each other some electronic space,” he told BuzzFeed. “Knowing you are going to spend time together at night — even if it is studying, or doing laundry, or even 'Netflix and chill' — [it] can be far more rewarding than hundreds of useless text messages."

Hawaii man gets a writing assignment from judge

A Hawaii judge ordered a defendant to write 140 “nice” things about his ex-girlfriend after he violated a protection order, Huffington Post reported.

“For every nasty thing you said about her, you’re going to say a nice thing,” 2nd Circuit Judge Rhonda Loo told Daren Young said in the story. “No repeating words.”

In February, Young was ordered to stop contacting his ex, but ended up sending her more than 140 text messages over three hours, which is why 140 nice things is the assignment.

In addition to saying nice things about his ex, Young received time served and was placed on two years probation, along with $2,400 in fines and 200 hours of community service.
