Margot Robbie set to portray Barbie in an upcoming live-action film; Number Fest announces 2019 lineup

Today is Friday, Jan. 11, 2019. Here’s what you need to know:

Good morning,

Barbie is heading to the silver screen, and actress Margot Robbie is set to portray the classic toy — as well as produce the film.

A collaboration between Warner Bros. and Mattel, the film is aiming to portray Barbie in a fresh and relevant way for modern viewers. The project is also Mattel’s first venture into the film world since the newly created Mattel Films.

“I’m so honored to take on this role and produce a film that I believe will have tremendously positive impact on children and audiences worldwide,” the Australian actress said.

Before the announcement of Robbie’s portrayal, comedienne Amy Schumer was set to play the titular role. Due to scheduling conflicts, she had to drop out.

No director or release date has been revealed.
