Weekender Briefs: Enjoy exciting concerts, take a walking tour of Glouster

Friday, May 27

Unmanned will take the stage at 6 p.m. at Eclipse Company Store, 11309 Jackson Drive. This all-girl rock band from the West Virginia hills will be taking the stage for the first time in the Hocking Valley area, so make sure to check it out.

Admission: Free

Chris Michael & the Andrews will perform live at Armory Park, 2 E. Carpenter St., from 6:30 until 10 p.m. Enjoy live music outdoors at this scenic park during a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area compliant time.

Admission: Free

A May Soirée featuring Joanna Abel will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Athens Uncorked, 14 Station St. This elegant evening of live music and belly dance performances will include performances by violinist Karen Richards and cellist Lara Wallas. Belly Dance performances will be headlined by Joanna Abel, joined by Ellie Olin and more.

Admission: $15

 

Saturday, May 28

 

Kids Fishing Derby will take place from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Hocking Valley Sportsman, 5989 Radford Rd. Hosted by Hocking Valley Sportsman, this event invites kids for fun and fishing. If participants do not have bait, there will be some provided, and the event also includes lunch.

The Imagination Library Celebration will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Athens Public Library, 30 Home St. All are invited to come celebrate Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Athens County. Participants can experience early literacy activity stations, listen to stories, and meet beloved character Llama Llama.

Admission: Free

 

Songwriters Bruce Dalzell and Megan Bee will take on the Donkey Coffee stage at 8 p.m. The duo will share original music both solo and together in one of Athens’ most popular listening rooms.

Rythmvayne will take on the Smiling Skull Saloon at 8 p.m. This exciting performance will be the band’s Southeastern Ohio debut, so make sure to go out and see the classic rock group.

Admission: $4

 

Sunday, May 29

Poverty String Band Trio, or PSB3, will take the stage for a midday performance at Eclipse Company Store from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. BSB3 features Adam Jackson on the fiddle, Greg Romanello on banjo, guitar, bass and vocals and Jeff Weaver on guitar, bass and vocals. Don’t miss this exciting performance. 

Admission: Free

 

Growing Glouster, A Glimpse into the Past and Present, a walking tour of Glouster, will meet at Sedalia Park/Pocket Park, 55 High St., and last from 1 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. This guided living history tour offers stories from the past and touches on future plans for the historic buildings of Glouster. 

Admission: $20 community pricing, $30 general admission, $40 pay it forward
