Fresh Finds Friday: The Weeknd Teams up with Ariana Grande on “Die For You Remix”; Odesza releases the first single after “The Last Goodbye;” U.S. Girls releases a song from the perspective of a tuxedo

Happy Friday, Bobcats. Another week has come and gone, and you know what the best part of my week is? Listening to new music. With that being said, it's always good to listen to some new tunes throughout the week and going into the weekend.

While everyone has their favorite genre of music, we’ve made a playlist that will appeal to any mood or preference. Below are new songs that are perfect for walking to class, working out at the gym, sitting around in your dorm or cranking out those last-minute papers. Here are five new songs to get you through the week:

“Die For You Remix” by The Weeknd, Ariana Grande

Returning after the release of "Dawn FM" comes The Weeknd’s first piece of music in 2023, with frequent collaborator Ariana Grande. The two have teamed up a total of four times, starting in 2014 on "Love Me Harder" and now on the remix of The Weeknd's 2016 “Starboy” hit, "Die for You." While "Die for You" is a six-year-old track, it recently gained popularity thanks mainly to TikTok. Grande's verse, the only addition in the remix, focuses on trying to concentrate on life, but how difficult it is around the one they love.

“Hopeful” by Odesza

"Hopeful" is Odesza's first piece of music since the release of its highly acclaimed album "The Last Goodbye." Odesza hasn't formally released this track on streaming platforms until last Friday, however, it has been a part of Odesza's live sets, especially on the "Last Goodbye Tour." It quickly became a favorite among concertgoers and fans alike. Long-time fans can rejoice in the fact that "Hopeful" brings a lot of similarity to what fans expect from an Odesza record, with its format of signature synths and the melodies that radiate good vibes.

“Idtwcbf (friends)” by BoyWithUke

“Idtwcbf,” meaning I don’t think we can be friends, marks one of the three singles on BoWithUke’s new EP “Antisocial.” BoyWithUke launched his career on TikTok by playing minute-long songs on his ukulele. The tracks he produced on his iPad became ones users loved. On “idtwcbf,” Uke is hinting at the story of a past relationship, and now that it’s over, he’s debating on the idea if he can even stay friends with his now ex. He sings, “Don’t make it harder than it has to be Baby, please, I don’t think we can be friends.”.

“Tux (Your Body Fills Me, Boo)” by U.S. Girls

"Tux" might be the first song ever written from the perspective of a tuxedo. The track’s music video features the dancer Libydo dressed up in a tuxedo with no head. This disco gem came out of a "pandemic-era pondering about closets and consumption waste," according to Rolling Stones. Throughout the song, the tuxedo begs to be used in lyrics, “I was born to be worn/ custom fit to make you feel legit."

“FREAK” by Beauty School Dropout, jxdn

Los Angeles, based punk rock band Beauty School Dropout formed back in 2020. The group teams up with jxdn for their single, “FREAK.” The track combines the fun pop vibe with a great deal of retro emo-punk to the likes of Blink-182. This energy comes from the content that takes listeners back to Highschool with a lot lyrics about self-consciousness, especially when it came to relationships. The lyrics, “I get super shy, huh trunks out boys do cry huh/ Maybe if I wasn’t such a freak, you’d be with me,” emphasizes this theme.
