The Board of Trustees convened its Academics Committee, discussing enrollment and retention rates for Ohio University.
Trustees received updates within various colleges at OU. Some highlights of the meeting include the opening of the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine campuses in Dublin and Cleveland, which are set to become operational in July 2014, 2015 respectively.
“I love talking about the college, take great pride in it,” said Kenneth Johnson, dean of the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. “Where there is such a focus on primary care at the state and national level, we’re working on sense of unity three campuses, one college.”
OU has received a significant number in student enrollment for this academic year.
“We have the largest growth of students in the state of Ohio,” said Craig Cornell, vice provost for enrollment management.
There was a 78.7 percent retention rate for freshman students from Fall Semester 2012-13, according to the Board of Trustees presentation.
Discussion, additional information about retention rates, those came out in the fall, how those are compiled what influences those rankings, said executive vice provost Pam Benoit.
Among other conversations that took place, OU slid down in rankings among national research universities from 130 to 135.
“There are a variety of factors that influence rankings,” Benoit added.
The university also reviewed the criteria for accreditation renewal. Other items were moved to the consent agenda for Friday’s meeting, including: a name change for a program in education and a creation of a new engineering degree program within the Russ College of Engineering.
