In 1874, the doors to the Athens Lunatic Asylum opened and went through many changes over the century before transferring its last patients in 1993. At that time, the •700 acre area was given to Ohio University. Now, the land is more commonly known as The Ridges and is home to the Kennedy Museum of Art, located at 100 Ridges Cir.
