Romantic comedies are filled with cringe-y yet charming tropes that make audiences fall in love with not only the characters, but the film as a whole. The genre of a rom-com is widely accepted and revered, even though a lot of the films regurgitate the same stereotypes over and over again. It doesn’t matter; we love them anyway.

Rick and Morty has often reveled in the absurd complexity of its narratives, throwing in more and more until its plot lines are laughably obtuse by design. However, its latest episode tests the audience’s ability to have enough sense of its narrative thread for them to even recognize when the jokes land.

I’ve never actually browsed through Netflix for a TV show. Searching for a movie to throw on is one thing, but usually, I’ve had my sights set on something when I’ve booted up Netflix to binge-watch a series in the past. Lately, though, with the quarantine running my list of shows to watch dry, I’ve started to let my eyes wander toward the recommendations showcased on the streaming platform.

I’ve never been a huge fan of anime. With the mass number of fans the genre has, I’m usually afraid to admit that. It’s never been a problem with the stories or the characters; the style of the series and the animation itself has always made me a little uncomfortable. I don’t know why. Yes, it’s honestly unreasonable, and, of course, I still have the utmost respect for what the shows do and the entertainment they provide to millions of people.

In the age of podcasts and YouTube rabbit holes, it is easy to learn a lot about niche topics. Science, historical events, politics — if you can think of it, it is likely out there somewhere. Oftentimes, after surges of looking things up and going down several rabbit holes of the internet, people find themselves getting bored. Yeah, things that can be proven are fun to learn about, but trying to uncover fantastical information that has been kept “secret” from the general public by a “higher power” is more interesting than anything we can prove.

YouTube, perhaps more than any other platform, is extremely easy to get lost in. From the shorter format of most videos to the sheer number of content creators out there, hours can slip by in the blink of an eye while watching. It all but encourages unproductive binge-watching in which you lose chunks of your life without meaning. A newer channel that likes to focus on that idea is Unus Annus.

Come Feb. 14, love is in the air and all is well. At least, that’s until you realize the challenge of deciding which gift to give that special someone in your life. Valentine’s Day is a day to appreciate the loved ones in your life, but it also comes with stress if gift-giving isn’t exactly your love language. Some may prefer the easy route of heart-shaped boxes of chocolate and a bouquet of flowers, but it’s time to take a “non-cheesy” approach when gifting your sweetie this V-day.
