If there’s one thing for sure about Athens, it’s that Halloween is always looming. It’s a great time to engage with the history and the culture of the town. There are three cemeteries inside the town, alongside family names and local lineages. But the spookiest spectacle in our neck of the woods is the Athens Lunatic Asylum.

Although The Smiths were not around for very long, they didn’t waste a second. Throughout their time, they released four albums, and enough non-album singles to warrant releasing three compilations. One of the best of these seven releases is “Hatful of Hollow,” a compilation that contains many of their best songs, such as “This Night Has Opened My Eyes,”and most popular songs, such as “How Soon Is Now?”

This past week has been tragic beyond words for Jewish and Muslim communities all over the world. Hamas’ attack on Israel has killed at least 1,300 and left 3,227 wounded. In Gaza, at least 2,329 have been killed and 9,714 injured, with both numbers expected to rise.

The queer supergroup boygenius, consisting of Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker, released its second EP last Friday. The group formed in 2018 after meeting in 2016. From then on, it released a self-titled EP in late 2018 consisting of six songs and released a full-length studio album "the record” in March of 2023.

The news media as well as social media are abuzz with what Israel needs to do in response to the slaughter of hundreds of innocent civilians as well as the kidnapping and denigrating of countless men, women and children by Hamas militants on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023. It was the most heinous and reprehensible act of terrorism against innocent Israelis and must be condemned unequivocally.
