Kanye West has long been a controversial public figure, which has become especially true in the years since Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from the Atlanta-born rapper. It has been public knowledge for quite some time that West suffers from bipolar disorder. It has also come to light from Kardashian that he does not take medication to help him improve his mental health and is generally unapologetic about his behavior. All of this is despite the fact that his mental illness has hurt his family and is one of the causes for the couple’s divorce. West, both in spite and because of this, continues to maintain his fame. The consensus has been that West is a man who should not be taken seriously. However, something has shifted in the last month; West’s rhetoric has become dangerous.

After the last two and a half years of a pandemic, some of us have struggled to keep busy. Some people took on a new hobby or pastime during the beginning of quarantine to stave away boredom. Some people binged new shows and read books they’d been waiting ages to get time to read. Some completed new household projects, or took the time to purchase pets.

As a lifelong resident of Athens County, I support Jill Thompson for County Auditor. I do not have a personal relationship with her, but had regular professional interaction with her during my years with the Auditor of State’s office when auditing Athens County and carrying through to my years as an area school district Treasurer. I am now retired. In my dealings with her, she was positive, professional, and willing to assist me directly or have me work with her staff who were all extremely helpful.

Netflix’s “All Quiet On The Western Front” remake was just released two weeks ago on Oct. 29, and while being a great movie, it’s a terrible adaptation of the Erich Maria Remarque book of the same name from 1928. It revolves around the story of Paul, a teenager from Germany who enlists into service during World War I, only to discover the horrors that await him. To understand why this movie is a terrible adaptation, the entire story must be spoiled.

On Tuesday, Athens County voters will decide whether Republican incumbent Jill Thompson or Democrat Ric Wasserman is best suited to fulfill the position of the Athens County auditor. It’s not the first time voters have had to choose between the two opponents.

After three seasons of dwelling in the basement of terrible NBA teams, the Brooklyn Nets escaped to the playoffs through a core of exciting young players. They even made it to the playoffs in consecutive seasons and did so with their most talented player, Kyrie Irving, featuring in only 20 games. The future was undeniably bright.

Student Senate met Wednesday and heard a presentation from Mia Citino, a Student Trustees on the Board of Trustees. Citino’s presentation was a debrief on the most recent Board of Trustees meeting, Housing Master Plan and the presidential search.
