Four years ago, many Ohioans were forced to wait up to 11 hours in line at the polls on Election Day. Some finally made it to the front of the line only to discover they weren't eligible to vote because they had not signed for mailings from election officials. According to House Judiciary Committee Chair John Conyers (D-MI), the net effect was that three percent of all Ohio voters who showed up to vote on Election Day were forced to leave without casting a ballot. Most affected were inner city voters and college students, groups which predominantly vote Democratic. The three percent of voters turned away accounted for 55,000 more people than Bush's margin of victory in Ohio.

As a graduating senior, I have only one regret in my college career here at Ohio University, and that is not appreciating the culture that is unique only to Athens. Most students at OU go through the days without a fleeting thought of being a part of the Athens community. It has taken me four years to pause, look around and recognize what a special place Athens is. Away from papers, tests and crazy parties, Athens provides us students with such a unique opportunity to experience its environment, food and music that you never knew existed. The environment of Athens is so rich in beauty that it is essential for students to experience it. From the bike path that goes all the way to Hocking College to the nature trails in the Ridges to the rolling hills of Stroud's Run to Bong Hill that overlooks Athens, a students has not truly experienced this town if they have not explored outside past campus. Being outside, you will likely work up an appetite, and Athens provides some of the best food for people to eat. From O'Betty's variety of hotdogs to Bagel Street Deli's plethora of bagel sandwiches to the one-of-a-kind Burrito Buggy to Casa Cantina's organic menu, these places will provide an exciting atmosphere and surely get rid of those hunger pangs.-
As we all know, going to college is an expensive proposition. Ever-rising tuition, room and board, nights out and, of course, a tear-jerking trip to the bookstore at the start off each quarter. It is not uncommon for a textbook to cost more than a hundred dollars. A full-time student enrolls in about four classes a quarter, three quarters a year and optimistically four years between the start and end of their college career. After the math, that works out to around $4,800. After hocking up the cash, there are assigned readings from half the book at best. The student will likely read less than half of those and sell the book back. Buybacks frequently yield a measly sum, and I often keep my books finding I could get more money by selling them as a DuraFlame alternative.

Its mission is to let grieving students know that they are not alone and that they can find support and understanding from peers through its online programming and growing number of campus chapters across the country.
