In November last year (it feels weird saying that), I talked about a few unheralded stars in mid-major basketball. However, as the men’s college basketball season has progressed, more players have made their case to be known as more than just hometown heroes or potential bracket busters.

An Ohio team that is budding with a wealth of promise, there exists a drought of consistency. Among the Bobcat's top-nine players in minutes per game this season, six were listed as not on the roster last year or were out with injury.

My last column harped on my lack of excitement for Drake’s newest release, “For All the Dogs Scary Hours Edition,” but what I failed to talk about was the album I was most excited for: the legendary hip hop artist André 3000’s first ever solo album, “New Blue Sun.”

Ohio walked onto the court of The Convo in need of a bounce-back win following a poor performance at Appalachian State in the team’s season opener. The team got just that against Dayton in what would end up being a 67-61 finish, a score that doesn’t do the best to demonstrate the team’s performance earlier on in the game.

In general, the theme of this column is going to be oversaturation or overpopulation, but in relation to two specific things. In the NBA, there’s an incredible density of talent between the 30 teams in the league. In the music industry, there’s new Drake music every season. I’m sick of waiting for both to change at this point, so let’s get into why.

Basketball is a game of adjustments. In a game scenario, teams adjust game plans on the fly, making changes big and small to counter the natural ebbs and flows of the game. From a team standpoint, regardless of the level of play, rosters change at a frequent rate, causing fluctuation in both a team’s style of play and the role of its individuals.

After a faltering and sloppy second-half performance against Appalachian State, in which Ohio was outscored 31-7 in the fourth quarter, Ohio is looking to even its record in its home opener against Dayton (1-1).

Looking down the first college basketball AP Poll, a trend you’ll quickly notice is just how many of the top 25 teams are from conferences like the Big 12, the Athletic Coast Conference (ACC), the Southeastern Conference (SEC), the Big Ten, the Pac-12, and the Big East.

The last hoo-rah is a part of every great story. Regardless of fiction or nonfiction, learning the background of someone who has been through triumph, heartbreak and a whirlwind of other emotions is a rewarding experience for all parties involved.

It's no secret that the 2022-23 season didn't go as well as coach Bob Boldon and the Bobcats wanted last year, finishing 6-23 on the season and 4-14 in the MAC. The season's disappointment was only compacted when Yaya Felder, the leading scorer in the entire conference and two-time All-MAC selectee, transferred to Baylor.
