Pick of the patch

Pick of the patch

Pumpkin patches bring in money for farmers during only two months of the year, but for local pumpkin farmers, selling the large, round, orange fruit is just as much about connecting with people as it is making a buck.

This Day in History: Raid results in execution for abolitionist

On this day in 1859 the famous raid on Harpers Ferry, Va., by abolitionist John Brown to seize the arsenal there and start an armed slave revolt occurred. This raid happened in the beginnings of the push for the abolishment of slavery, and both Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass, two of the most famous abolitionists, were asked to participate in the early stages of planning the raid. However, they both ended up declining as Tubman was ill at the time and Douglass believed that Brown’s plan would fail.

Post Letter: Rape culture not prevalent on OU campus

Before I begin I want to acknowledge that I do not condone the incident that occurred during Homecoming Weekend on Court Street. In fact, this letter should not been viewed as a commentary on said incident but rather as a response to all the talk about rape culture on our campus.

Rape culture means more than just rape

This is in response to, but not as an attack on, the previous Post Letter: Rape culture not prevalent on OU campus. To some degree, I agree with the points made in the aforementioned editorial. Rape is a serious sexual offense and should be handled with sensitivity. Victims of these crimes should never be shamed into feeling responsible for the assault. I also agree that in some situations, where both parties are unable to consciously give consent, specifically where alcohol is involved, should be handled carefully and in a way that does not shift full responsibility on one person.
