Oct. 19, 2009Late in 1966, Gene Thrailkill decided the band at Ohio University was in need of a drastic change. He had little support for his idea. Out were the Ivy League green blazers and ties. Out were the Majorettes. In was a drastically new uniform, a demanding marching style, and, of course, dance routines. Mr. Thrailkill says, I knew the drive-on and first note of Stand Up and Cheer would make or break the band. Most wanted us to fail; but I knew it was where we needed to go. Of course, the wisdom of Mr. Thrailkill's decision has been born-out over time. The Marching 110 never looked back.
Post Letter: 'Post' Web site format must become easier on the eyes
Oct. 19, 2009I'm writing to express concern about The Post's online home. Reading stories on The Post's Web site is unbearable. I'm not talking about the content, just the formatting of the actual stories. I have good eyes and don't mind reading size-9 font, but the width of the page is completely unreasonable. Have you ever seen a newspaper print text the whole way across the paper? I have a widescreen laptop, and if I maximize my browser, I can fit the story onscreen, but it borders on unreadable. It goes against the basics of Web design and news layout, and is an unforgivable problem on a site whose sole purpose is to deliver news.
