Your Turn: Antioch faculty member calls the college 'vital community'

I am an Associate Professor of Dance at Antioch College. My students are hard working and supportive of each other's creative processes. They rehearse in each other's dances and give reflective responses as the work is developing. Each semester we produce a full-length evening dance concert which is well-attended and appreciated by the Antioch College and Yellow Springs community. I have been teaching at Antioch College since 2001. We are a vital community, committed to deep, thoughtful and thought-provoking dialogue. Many students are artists as well as activists.

Your Turn: Students must work together to make OU 'open and accepting'

Approaching 45 years ago, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., delivered his I Have a Dream speech on the Lincoln Memorial. Within that speech, Dr. King hoped that his children would one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. The acts of some Ohio University students continue to make King's words all too relevant decades after his speech. Several Ohio University students have chosen to host and attend racially motivated theme parties where attendees are expected to adhere to negative and discriminatory stereotypes associated with African-Americans. Invitations on Facebook have listed fried chicken
