Volleyball: Griffin helps 'Cats avenge only MAC loss, breaks kills record

Melissa Griffin was not fazed despite her team's opening-game defeat to Miami Saturday. Following the Bobcats' first opening-game loss in Mid-American Conference play this season, the middle blocker and her teammates responded, taking the next three games and the match, avenging their only loss in conference play this season.

Mr. Right: McDavis, Krendl must resign to make way for democratic OU

It's no secret that the McDavis administration has many vocal opponents on campus, nor is it a secret that roughly three out of four students voting in last year's Student Senate election voted no confidence in OU's president. Although political rhetoric turned toward McDavis' resignation last year, this school year the tone of campus debate has been a bit more conciliatory. Student activists, along with concerned faculty and staff, have been offering strong suggestions for how the McDavis administration must change to regain the confidence of the university community. Some of these suggestions have included re-employing laid-off custodial staff, eliminating so-called free speech zones and making the university system more open and democratic. Across the board, the McDavis administration has ignored these suggestions, and now it seems that there is only one option left for Dr. McDavis, Dr. Krendl and the other key figures in the administration: They must resign.

Your Turn: Vote for law director who tried cases in federal court

Athens City Law Director Garry Hunter is the clear choice for re-election. Not only does he have 30 years of experience, but also he is admitted to and has practiced in the Federal District Courts for Ohio and the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Supreme Court as law director. Patrick Lang, on the other hand, was only just admitted to the Federal District Court of the Southern District of Ohio in July of this year and is not admitted to the other federal courts where Hunter is admitted. Obviously, Lang has never tried a case in federal court if he was just admitted this past summer. I am supporting the clear choice for Athens City law director, Garry Hunter.

Your Turn: Elect law director candidate who learned municipal law

As Athens County Law Director Garry Hunter pointed out in the recent debate, he represents Athens City and the Athens City School District, reviews and prepares all city contracts and ordinances, advises 11 city departments and supervises the city prosecutors. In addition, the job has become very specialized, requiring him to give daily advice on transparency in government issues, land use issues, environmental issues, federal grant matters, discrimination matters, telecommunication matters, public safety issues, retirement issues, health insurance issues, worker compensation issues, lay-off issues, ethics issues, tax abatement issues, annexation matters and economic development. Municipal law is not something you receive training for as an assistant county prosecutor, despite what Pat Lang might think. I support the candidate with a proven track record and knowledge of municipal law. I support the re-election of Garry Hunter as Athens City's law director.

Your Turn: Assertions that Paul Wiehl is anti-student simply 'not true'

I am writing this short letter to clear up a few points that were made in a recent letter to the editor, in The Post, where Paul Wiehl was labeled as an anti-student candidate for mayor. This simply is not true! Paul lives in a mixed student/long-term residential neighborhood, unlike Ed Baum, who has few students as neighbors. Paul works with students every day in his current job at the university. Paul has many students who are supporting him for mayor and many more who are helping with his campaign.

Your Turn: Choice is clear for re-election

I support the re-election of Garry Hunter as Athens city law director. Hunter has 30 years of experience while his opponent, Patrick Lang, has experience in the Athens County prosecutor's office working in juvenile court. Lang stated in the recent debate he would be the fourth prosecutor for the city of Athens if elected law director. This statement alone shows how na+
