Editorial: Players shouldn't pay

Federal Hocking's school board will meet today to decide if it will implement pay-to-play for athletics next school year to reduce the district's projected $1.8 million debt. Officials proposed a $50 or $100 fee per student, which would generate about $12,500 or $25,000 for the schools next year. This meager sum wouldn't put a dent in the district's massive debt, yet it would likely prevent some students from participating in athletics.

Tuesdays with Rainy:

Many people say Spring Quarter is the best quarter of the school year. Student organizations host many special events like spring trips, fundraisers and concerts. It's the time to enjoy the sunshine and nice weather ' not to mention the showing of nice bronze skin as people tan outside. Other spring activities at Ohio University involve drinking.

Your Turn: Writer insensitive to soccer player

I would like to know the meaning to your zone Jason Fazzone. I read your article (May 8, Intoxicated deaths spark as much anger as suffering). Yes you are right: you are insensitive. I hope you never have to walk in the shoes of any of the Ohio University teammates or Sarah's parents. You have no idea what Sarah is to this team as well as many others at OU, and for you to sit there in front of your computer and write an article like this is beyond me. I have always thought that when something tragic happens, something good should come from it. Instead of writing an article about your anger, you should write about learning a lesson from this. Not a day has gone by that I don't miss Sarah for who she is: for her huge smile, her laugh, for what she meant to her teammates, to the soccer parents and most of all to her grieving parents, sisters and family members.

Your Turn: Filmmaker turns environmental problem into politics

The Great Global Warming Swindle, a UK-produced documentary, has garnered widespread publicity thanks to sites such as YouTube. The polemic film takes several controversial stances ' primarily that environmentalists are anti-human and that global warming is the biggest scam of modern times.

Your Turn: College meant to share ideas

There comes a time in every college student's life when they must leave Fantasy Island and enter the real world. I can't help but chuckle reading the latest attacks against Post columnist Ashley Herzog. Facts and research be damned, the authors of these poor excuses to defend their agenda just know putting more guns into the general public will create more violence without any knowledge on the subject at hand. You might call Ms. Herzog controversial, but it's unfair to say she hasn't researched her opinions and thought them out well in advance. Aristotle once said, It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it. It appears that Herzog's latest critics by and large lack this ability.

Editorial: Influential vote

Ohio University students have the opportunity this Thursday to make their opinions known in the Student Senate elections and in the vote on President Roderick McDavis' ability to lead this university forward. The Post recommends voting in the following manner on the Student Senate election ballot's four questions regarding McDavis. The first three can be answered on a sliding scale from one to five, with one representing strongly disagree and five representing strongly agree. The last is a yes or no question.

Your Turn: Wage gap not attributed to choice

Every Monday of this quarter without fail, I am left speechless by Ms. Herzog's columns. I must also admit that I am left anticipating her next inevitable piece of bull tripe. What have the feminists ruined this week? In her May 7 article, Evidence punches holes in the gender pay gap theory
