Family of OU grads receive support for serious genetic condition

Kathy White and her daughter and son-in-law, Shauna and Lonnie McMillan, started a GoFundMe for their grandson and son, Caleb, who was diagnosed with cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy – a rare genetic condition. The McMillans will be traveling to Boston to receive treatment in the form of a new gene therapy. All OU grads, their family’s story is connecting with people in Athens, Upper Sandusky and beyond.

As an international and first-generation student, Datta has been giving back to students through programs that helped her.

Students weigh in on House Speaker election, their role in politics

After five days of voting, Rep. Kevin McCarthy was elected as the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. It took 15 ballots for McCarthy to win the speakership, which is the most it has taken to elect a Speaker since before the Civil War. Gen Z and other young people, especially students, have been reacting to the lengthy Speaker election and recognizing the importance of paying attention to government processes.
