Just as the weather gets warmer and school is let out, all incoming freshmen at Ohio University are hit with the quick reality that college life is on the horizon with Bobcat Student Orientation, or BSO. With the program being mandatory for all incoming undergraduate students, almost all Bobcats can relate to those pre-orientation jitters that come with pulling into the Convocation Center and checking in. After all, this is the first time it hits many Bobcats that they are actually college students.

This has been my first semester with The Post, and though I’m sad to be saying goodbye until next year, I’m grateful for all I’ve experienced while working with this paper thus far. With this year coming to an end, I’ve also done a lot of reflecting not just on my time with The Post, but about everything the year has generally taught me.

As the semester winds down we face the knowledge that many of us will soon be going back to our hometowns and saying goodbye to our friends, at least for the summer, or potentially for a long time depending on if they’re graduating. No matter your situation, there’s a song for it, and we’ve compiled a few of them here.

One of the year's most significant events took place over the weekend — albeit, one of the most significant events for Ohio University. Friday and Saturday were dedicated to what some say OU does best: partying. With decades worth of students enjoying Palmer Place and Palmer Street Fests, one year — 2004 — stands out as one of the most amicable fests thanks to the work of an OU alum.

A staple of my childhood – and what feels like a lifetime ago – was coming home from elementary school on a cool day in March, throwing my backpack onto my bed and watching the Big East basketball tournament with my father. I have vivid memories of the Catholic schools pummeling each other while the public schools tried to run their opponents off of the floor with athletic, track-meet styles of play. A law in my household was always, no matter the teams, to pull for the public schools.

Logic, born Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, is a rapper from Gaithersburg, Maryland. He has a universal story, coming from a broken family, which connects him to his listeners. He grew up witnessing his brothers manufacture and distribute crack cocaine, his father buying and fueling a crack addiction with those drugs, an alcoholic mother and frequent abuse toward his sisters, which he writes about in his book “This Bright Future: A Memoir.” All of these real-life experiences fuel the pace of parts of the album, which Logic openly raps.
