Last Friday, Baker Center Ballroom was full of rich culture, music and, of course, dance. A segment of the 3rd Global Arts Festival, the 11th World Music and Dance Concert took place from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On the evening of Monday, April 17 Yom Hashoah will begin, the Israeli day of remembrance for the over six million Jews who were murdered during the Holocaust. The year which is most commonly cited as the beginning of the Holocaust is 1933, meaning that we are now 90 years out from the beginning of the heinous genocide. Almost a century later, how should we be remembering the Holocaust? In this case, I believe that knowledge is the most powerful route to take.

Marijuana, Mary Jane, pot or weed— it's all been a part of the human condition dating back 6,000 years ago, despite legalization only coming into the mainstream in 2012, with Colorado and Washington becoming the first states to legalize marijuana. Since then, many states have followed that trend.

I’m sure you’ve heard in some form that three children and three adults were fatally shot at a school in Nashville on Monday, March 27. It took over all news stations and social media platforms, and rightfully so. You’ve likely also seen the social media posts with the frightening statistic that there have been more mass shootings than days in 2023. According to the Gun Violence Archive, as of March 27, we have racked up 128 mass shootings in 86 days.

The Dairy Barn, 8000 Dairy Lane, is a local cultural arts center that aims to promote artistic endeavors and events within southeast Ohio. One of its annual events is the Dairy Barn Fest, which was hosted this past Friday and Saturday in conjunction with the Athens Arts Guild and Chi Omega, an Ohio University sorority. The event included vendors from the area along with a raffle to raise funds for local education.

The event serves as a celebration of the STEM field through hands-on science experiments and activities. Alpha Chi Sigma is a national fraternity for chemistry students at Ohio University.
