Family of OU grads receive support for serious genetic condition

Kathy White and her daughter and son-in-law, Shauna and Lonnie McMillan, started a GoFundMe for their grandson and son, Caleb, who was diagnosed with cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy – a rare genetic condition. The McMillans will be traveling to Boston to receive treatment in the form of a new gene therapy. All OU grads, their family’s story is connecting with people in Athens, Upper Sandusky and beyond.

Aanya Datta’s involvement recognized with award

Experiential learning and accessible resources for all students are a few things prioritized by Aanya Datta because she understands the challenges of navigating opportunities in college. As an international and first-generation student, Datta has been giving back to students through programs that helped her. 


Mount Zion Baptist Church turns 150

Mount Zion Baptist Church, on the corner of N. Congress St. and Carpenter St., is the last remaining building of three historic Black properties in Athens. It turned 150 years old Saturday at the society’s annual meeting.
