Green With Envy: Dangerous greenhouse gases deserve more attention

Although carbon dioxide is the central problem concerning greenhouse gases, it is necessary to highlight that isn't the only gas that has heat-trapping potential in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide, according to the Energy Information Administration, accounted for more than 80 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in 2001.

ArkFest more tame than past

Like the past four ArkFests, revelers enjoyed live music, drank a few beers with friends and wondered why a party located off Stewart Street was named after an ark.

Your Turn: 'Post' columnist overlooks fulfillment outside religion

Leah Hitchens' most recent column in The Post, while well-written, makes a number of dangerous assumptions that require illumination. As my own most recent letter to The Post promoted a few assumptions that needed clarification (thanks to Kevin Grimm for his wonderfully eloquent response) I feel that it is appropriate here to contribute to the discussion in an opposite direction.

Your Turn: Senators' letters prove disconnect from student body

Last Thursday, Senator Webb wrote a letter to the editor, expressing that he believes students should not be critical of Student Senate. First of all, I apologize that you feel the students you are supposed to represent are hippies and tree-huggers. I am also sorry, and this one I mean sincerely, that you choose to be condescending toward the student body. The students at Ohio University, just like all people, do not deserve that. We do not need to be looked down upon because we don't dress business casual to class, just as you don't need to be looked down upon because you may. Secondly, we should be critical of Student Senate, just as we should be critical of President Obama and the Supreme Court. If we are not critical, our leaders would be left unchecked, which I, along with other people who believe in democracy, would consider unacceptable. When it comes to creating change on our university, I find it appalling that a senate member would rhetorically ask, what can you really do about it? What we can do about it is ask questions, demand transparency, and create democracy.
